So there she lay a woman down
and it’s not like she could cry
for tears to her are heart’s release
when the space runs out
but surely she could sigh
and put her hands upon the spots
that met up with the ground.

For a moment more she lay inert;
what good to stay where cold the feel
when somewhere high above the clouds
the warmth of other suns.

She sighed again, removed her hands,
and found her feet within the hurt
for she has learnt to stand upright
within the sphere of life’s demands.

She teetered though as one unsure
for in that moment of regain
the task of relocation bore
heavy like a ton of bricks.

But in the furtherance of life
she moved as one with true insight
back into the frame of mind
that displays determination.

Up, up, and there she was
in her happy place;
a paradise she found one day
not thinking that she would
and this the crutch she uses
to lift her spirit up!

A veritable "Unsinkable Molly Brown", she be!

Nothing like a positive attitude and determination to get one back up on one's feet!

Honey, I especially liked the high-spirited note that this poem ended on!

Loving hug,
Linda

Thank you, Linda dear!  I guess the body will take a time to heal but at least the spirit's in a good place so I'm thankful for that happy place.

Hugs

Nothing can hold a good woman down as long as she has spirit and determination  This told a much deeper tale than first appears.  Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much, sharyn.  Everything is more than it first appears - wish I could have known that when I was younger.

Wise and beautiful, dear Helen! I admire women who gain the strength to react and straighten up after being down. They are the true power women. And you transmit this kind of power very efficiently.

Thank you all for your kind comments.  I certainly don't fit into the same category as phyllis schlafly but I guess we all try in our own little ways to "stand up and be counted" even if it's just ourselves doing the counting.  I think I've got to 3 so I know I've still got a long way to go.

helen...i feel the need to add a quiet clarification to my previous comment...today, phyllis received an honorary doctorate from washington university in st. louis, missouri and although, i don't agree with many of her conservative views or her stance against the feminist movement, i do respect her ability to standup for her beliefs. she does stir the pot and i think that is important in making the world go around.

Thanks rvw.  What I actually meant was that I'm not as "famous" as her or able to stand up for my beliefs publically as she does but in the sphere of my ordinary life I do stand up ... fall down ... stand up.     I hadn't actually heard about her before you mentioned her but I checked her out although not in detail.  But thanks for the clarity.

Dear Helen,
You are the epitome of beauty, grace, compassion, and courage.
Please take care, we need you around here.
You're not only a wonderful poet, you're one of my heros.

Thinking of you,
Rich

Oh, damn - when people say nice things I cry!  Thank you, Rich!  I'm trying so very hard to toughen up but I'm not having much success.  Perhaps it's just a state of mind that will persist through time which means, of course, I'm doomed to die as I am tonight ... but I still can smile and wipe my eyes and I reckon that's alright.

Oh dear Helen, please don't say things like that. I wish I could be there to visit, but just know that we all love you and are praying, and sending healing thoughts for you to get better. Hang in there sweet friend we are all around you, giving you a great big hug.
