It is almost evil
the way the sickness rises
clouds my day
while I wrestle desperately
to hold back a wall of self
and other destruction.

I am up
raised above clouds
and unhindered by obstacles
happy
big smile from almost nowhere
and goal bound.
Unheeded momentarily
hours or mere minutes
by the down
threatening
grinning slightly
from just around the corner of my soul.

And then it slams into me
from somewhere I can barely see
and I plunge
from total self assurance
into something
else.
Faltering
breathing in things I could do
to destroy
the very good nature of myself
and I continue to sink
until
moments
hours
or minutes go by
and suddenly
I am rising again
goal bound
and smiling.

An explanation of this is that in November I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Doc says that writing is good for this. Maybe that is what has gotten me through all these years that I didn't know. I want to start a good project out of this. Oh well....I have to laugh at the OCD though...that one was always extrememly recognizable to me.

Love and stuff...

I reckon you pretty much sum up every human being with the above words because we all at some time or other suffer "the plunge" although it may be caused by different things and end up in a different place.

Enjoyed your poem!

I thought that you might be interest in something I once read! ~ People who are bi-polar often have a higher intellect than the rest of we monochromatic, monotone mortals.

Jen!  It is sooooo good to read you!  You've described the high and lows of this with impecable clarity. Really well done!

I have a close relative who was diagnosed with this as well, and you've captured it beautifully. I'm a true believer in writing it out ... you go girl!

Great to see you and read you ... very much enjoyed Jen!

Best wishes and big hugs,
/Kit

I really appreciate all of your support on my writing for this.

Thanks so much everyone. I was a little nervous about admitting this here, but I feel a little better now.
