Edge of the World
Please Click Link above to hear music and my voice recording.

Music is entitled: Star Chant by R. Carlos Naika
From the album: “Earth Spirit”

Edge of the World
by Linda L. Dowd

As moonbeams slip thru’ louvered windows,
on a moonlit, summer’s night,
Slender fingers of radiant light reach over me,
casting my languid body in silver.

Lady Luna's sine qua non sates my soul,
~ illuminating it with her goddess light.
Memories of ancient times are awakened
and I begin chanting the songs of the Druids.

I rise and find my way to the ocean’s shore,
with an inner knowing of sacred secrets.
With arms reaching up to the stars,
I touch my very own spirit.

I stretch and rock gently~ to and fro
in the primal rhythms of long ago.
~ Breathing sage essences of ages past,
allowing the mysteries to enfold me.

Bathed in the serene glow of the sacred Mother,
I am transported to another time,
another place, when Dance of the Dawn
ushers in the morning sun.
With waves lashing my legs into primeval movements,
the glorious sun rises at the edge of the world.

“We are borne of star dust,
and to the stars we shall one day return.”
~ Linda L. Dowd

Dear Linda,

Your new picture is very nice.  This poem is somewhat fanciful.  Someone doing Druid chants would be rather frightening.

Bobby ~

Good morning, and thanks for the compliment regarding my new pic. Actually I thought it would be a fun photo to post with my face and bangs pasted into that pic!

Regarding your comment regarding your thoughts that a Druid chant would be frightening, I got this definition of a Druid from Wikipedia. ~

In Celtic polytheism, a druid was a member of the priestly and learned class in the pre-Christian, ancient Celtic societies. These societies existed through much of Western Europe, Britain and Ireland, until they were supplanted by the Roman government and, later, the arrival of Christianity. Druids were part of the cultures of the tribal peoples who were called "Keltoi" (Κέλτοι or "Keltai" (Κέλται and "Galatai" (Γαλάται by the Greeks and "Celtae" and "Galli" by the Romans. These words evolved into the modern English terms "Celtic", "Gaulish", and "Galatian". In the communities they served, druids combined the duties of priest, arbitrator, healer, scholar, and magistrate. Both men and women served as druids."

I doubt that their chants would frighten me! lol

Hugs,
Linda

Linda,

The Druids also engaged in human sacrifice.

Now THAT indeed would be "frightening"!

And you just transported me there along with you, dear Linda! You always bring fascination with your magical flashback poems. I gladly dance along.

Wonderful and I wouldn't expect anything less than wonderful from you!

Hugs and much love, Angelo Terrestre!

I’m overjoyed to report that my Celtic ancestors gave up Druidism some years ago.

I think it was a wise move on their part.

Dear Linda, I enjoyed your penning as usual - thank you.  I think we've all done and been everything in the long forgotten past so I'd be the last one to throw stones at the Druids or anyone else who I suppose  did the best they could with what they had just like I'm doing now.

Write on lovely Linda!

Hugs

Dear Linda,
As you might imagine, I absolutely love and understand this poem. Human sacrifice was practiced by many in the past, each in his own way. (burning at the stake for example) accomplished the same end. I tend to take with a grain of salt the bad press any society that elevated women later recieved by those who wrote history to serve themselves and their ideology. Keep writing down your beautiful thoughts. They are much needed in our present world.
                         Love,
                            Ida

The stunning image of the sun touching the edge of the world---infinite circles on the mystic surface of a sphere---is breathtaking! I will say little more; this magnificent poem speaks in a way no commentary can begin to imitate!

Enjoyed this to the utmost,

Art
