there were patterns there
in your blue stew of music
like some clouds had fallen in

but I had been suspecting too
you just went out on those nights
and stole some lover's moons

then brought them home again
in your bosom with heaven
and let your hands unclutch them

while pretending to hold your own
in someone else's arms
including mine on occasions when

you preferred dancing without strangers
