Sometimes during the summer
the kids in the hood
will get out of hand.

Things get taken,
houses get broken into.

The cops will park a special van
near the playground.
It’s a portable police station.

They’ve been keeping their eye on Angelo.
He’s fourteen-years-old, loud, skinny,
and he looks suspicious,
with the way he dresses.

He’s just hanging out
in a pair of ragged swimming trunks.
He’s the casual type.

The police know Sally and Felix,
by reputation.

They feel sure Angelo’s
up to no good.

The cops take Angelo
into the van for questioning.

“Okay kid, what’s your name?”

“My name is Angelo, officer.”

“Why are you dressed like that Angelo?”

“I like to swim in the river.
I don’t want to do that
in my regular clothes, officer.”

“Don’t wise-off to me kid,
or you’ll be in real trouble.”

“I’m sorry officer.”

“Okay Angelo.
Get out of here,
and stay out of trouble.”

Angelo is very glad
that his Mom and Dad
taught him how to talk to cops.

Bobby

That's a primary lesson to be learned, how to talk to the cops. You don't want to get on their bad side! Angelo is no dummy!

Earth's crammed with heaven, and every common bush afire with God, but only he who sees takes off his shoes.

Dear Denise,

Isn't that the truth though.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

Your Felix and associates poems are very enjoyable to read. More and more I look at them as short, short stories in the way they fit the motif of the short story as set forth by the great, Kenneth Payson Kempton from 1950s Harvard University.

Best wishes,

Art

A clever title for the cute story that was to follow!

Angelo is wise to listen to his parents ~ especially when they are right! lol

Thanks Art,

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with your Kenneth Payson Kempton.

I'm glad you are enjoying the series.

Thanks Simon,

Angelo is Sally and Felix's son.  He won't have to do what Sally and Felix did just to live.

I'm glad you like the series.

Thanks dear Alison,

Angelo is a way good humored kid.  He’s always thinking, and keeps a smile on his face.  That’s the way he survives.

Love Bobby
