The truth about poetry

We’ve heard that poetry could wake the dead
That it makes the world go round
And if death and famine should strike us
We could live on it alone

Weve heard that poetry is who we are
Its beauty is in our heart
Its rhythm shapes our lives
And its rhyme is our voice

Well here’s the truth about poetry
Poetry cannot wake the dead
Only God knows what makes the world go round
And what idiot wants to digest paper

Poetry isn’t who we are, were actually human beings
Poetry isn’t beauty, its only ink on paper
And we are the ones who shape our lives
Not just some words

So why do we write poetry
Why do we waste our time?
Because by writing on this paper
We have written on your soul.

though most of your write will probably generate controversy, I do like the soul-writing aspect of this one

Poetry shapes a culture and is shaped by it; they are inextricably entwined. I think that history attests to this.

I really like your thought provoking poem. I think it puts the matter into a good and reasonable perspective.
