“Aunt Peggy, you’re not going to believe
What they MADE Sam do!”
Overheard, and unmoved
I sank toes deeper into sand,
Adjusted my shades
Just in time to drain another
Ounce from a bottle of Corona

Oh, I’d believe just about
Anything those older boys conspired
Especially at little Sam’s expense
What, with their powers of suggestion
And his willingness to please with total
Lack of fear made for a
Thin line of defense

“They made him eat the whole thing!”
One of the girls shrieked
Her little hand offering the now empty shell
Of a rather large fresh water mussel
Only to have the bust unravel with dimpled charm:

“But, Aunt Peggeeee!”, Sam cried
“I only ate 'is aum!”

Robert, I not only commend you on this charming write, I also commend you on spelling "Hors D'oeuvre" correctly! I must admit that I copied and pasted it because for me, that is the most difficult word in the English ~ er, French ~ language, to spell! I always have to look up its spelling in the dictionary! lol
