it was a accidental unraveling
that wood floor easy slip down
like boot cuts moving gravel
with the heals off music

you spoke of your art with buttons
how you collect them in your mind
and shuffle them like poker chips
between your fingers when hungry

and lately you have been more
than the occasional ravenous
for something non vegetarian
and some sipping whiskey too

something about the thunder you say
always makes you love being 40
and wearing those storms again
hoping this one is worse than before

and that worse is going to be lovely
