I Can Only Imagine What Your Father Saw That Horrible Day |

4/20/08 I can only imagine what your father saw that horrible day. The day that metal machine took over and drove you where you could not stop. Hard into a head on collision. He sees it still. Every night and every day. His body jerks violently as his memory replays the reel and his mind plays out the deal that life handed us. I can only imagine what your father saw that horrible day. The day he held your face in his palms and pleaded with God above; screaming, “This is my Son!” The day orange bright flames ignited your pecan swirls and devoured their way downward to your mesmerizing peridot portals. Onward to engulf your magnanimous smile and forever quiet the beautiful music of your laughter. I can only imagine what your father saw that horrible day. Fighting desperately and completely to pull you free of that machine that had you crushed within its unrelenting grip. I can only imagine what your father saw that horrible day. As he begged and battled, fought and prayed because when they arrive they can shock life back into your quieted heart. As rolling flames consumed and digested all of you. The imagination is a powerful thing… I do see what your father saw. I feel what he saw. I know what he saw. Even if it is just in my imagination. Hi Tammy, I saw the title on this and I had to wait a couple of days before I could read it. You are a writer of great talent and have told your story as no one else could ever tell it but it must be so hard on you to relive this with each write. Hello Ida, Thank you for your kind words. There has not been a day since Larry died that I have not relived that horrible day over and over. It is when there is a keyboard or a notebook in front of me that the visions don’t have any power over me. I never read or wrote poetry prior to Larry’s death. The following was my very first attempt. I looked at the letters on my keyboard and this is what my fingers tapped out. ---------------------------------------- 4/17/07 Larry was the sun and moon that brightened things up, the stars and rain that made you wonder, he was a child’s laughter that melts the heart and the cat’s purr that mysteriously soothed, he was the mountain that reached into the heavens and held you up high when you were down. He was your strength when you were weak. Larry was, what ever you needed him to be at the time. And he never expected anything in return. ------------------------------------------ I do hope to write about other things in time. I don’t decide what my next writing will be, it decides. Does that make sense? I don’t sit down and think about writing something. I just get this feeling that says grab the laptop or a notebook and there it is. Tammy<333 |

Tammy, words fail me. I admire your strength and courage ~ and that of your husband as well. What you have experienced is beyond comprehension. I saw the video that you so beautifully put together, and I sobbed all the way through it. My heart ~ and soul ~ aches for you all. When I got to the part in the video where there was the letting go of the green balloons, I was reminded of my own family's loss as well. Several years ago on March 17th, Chad ~ the 18 year-old son of my sister, disappeared on Lake Ontario along with 5 of his friends. Their bodies have never been found. He was the son that I never had. The grieving has lessened somewhat with time, but it is never forgotten and has become a part of me. The award-winning documentary still shows on television from time to time. For the first few years, on the anniversary of the 6 boys disappearance, hundreds of yellow balloons were released by those who gather to remember them. Chad was the second child she lost. Kelly died when she was an infant. What you have experienced is beyond comprehension. Sorry to have gone on like this, but your loss and the horror of how it happened, opened my own emotional flood-gates. My love, prayers, and healing hugs are sent to you all. btw ~ You are an exceptionally fine writer!!! After such an unbearable tragedy no one knows how they would handle it. You have chosen a way that will eventually lift you to a different place. I too had never written until after the death of my own beloved only son. He died a more natural death (if death is ever natural) and I do not have such pictures to overcome. Hi Linda, Do not be sorry for sharing your loss with me. Knowing that I am not alone in this grief helps… I am so sorry for your loss of your loss of your nephew Chad. A piece of your heart is forever gone… Thank you so very much for your compassion and your heart-felt words, they mean more than you could possibly know. One of the reasons I write is because I have made so many friends who have also lost children since Larry died and one of the things we all wish for is for the rest of the world to understand just a little bit of what we feel. I don’t know why but it helps to know that others truly care… Thank you. Everyone here on PIP has been so kind, caring and compassionate with me and my loss of Larry. It’s like I said before, poets are a different breed of people. They truly “feel” with their hearts. And I feel so lucky to have found this place. And Linda, thank you so very much for watching the tribute video. Quite a few people here have given of their time to do that and well, it means the whole damn world to me…. Thank you also for the kind words about my writing. They mean so much. I almost cryed reading this. Your really a strong women I think, I can't imagin the pain I know im far to young to know anything close, If one day god forbid i do know anything like that though ill take inspiration from all your words Ive read so far. Hang in there. |
