Times drag the gutter as rats scurry too and fro.
A lonesome dog howling at a hazy moon and
the can rolling into the darkness of a street
leading to nowhere.

The old man, drenched in an alcoholic bath
of too much, leading to nothing good.  Standing,
shivering at the street corner. Muttering to the
shadows that followed him.

Carrying a single sheet of cardboard,   worn on
the edges from being drug along the sidewalk,
a sidewalk covered with dregs of dribbles and
a dark corner where piercing, unseen and
distrusting eyes stare unblinkingly into the
sound of shuffling feet just beyond the light
of a street corner’s lamp.

Above them, the sounds of the poor, the
squabbles and screams, the dish that breaks
after being thrown toward a cheating husband
smelling of gin and cheap perfume.  And if one
could only see beyond the horizon....one might
shed a tear knowing what the other side of
the track held...wondering if he would ever
become a part of life where all the terrors of
the night lay silent behind closed and locked
doors...

Yes Barry you certainly did paint a vivid

picture with words, sad but true I'm

afraid. I thoroughly enjoyed your post.
