Relentless Demon of Grief

I sit here pondering
all that needs attention.
So many mundane
chores of day to day.

Yet, I stare at your photo,
off in emptiness,
into my own soul…

It is coming,
I can feel it.

It is feline like,
this demon of grief,
as it clings to the shadows
watching, biding.

No need for it to rush.
No matter how swift I sprint,
or how deep into concentration I dive,

I cannot hide…

It knows too well my scent.

Just under the surface it dwells.
Within the currents it flows.

I can feel it haunting,
taunting me,
playing mouse.

Hunting my spirit.

It will catch its prey,
it has no doubt.

I have no doubt.

I can feel its power.
Mighty is its presence.

Unwilling to be defeated.

Gaining momentum,
blackening the rays
that allow me visions
of all else.

I can feel its dominion twitching.
Anxious to inhale my being
within its depths.

To devour, and digest
my everything.

It is coming.
I can feel it in the flow of my veins,
sense it within.

I am not afraid though.
I welcome it now.

It has become a satiating need;
proof of our bond,
our love,
that will forever endure.

Running, evading
becomes heavy and weighted.

I am ready to fold inward,
fly backward,
backward into the
very second of your death,
and give myself up to it.

Allow it its way.
To fill its black stomach with me.

I must ride its tracks

down.

Through its core,
into its pit,
arrive in the bowels
of my anguish,
where I must wallow
for a time.

Until I am broken atoms
floating into dust.

It cannot destroy me,
for your spirit is within.

It does not know
nor understand
how much power
it electrifies you with.
How much power
I electrify into you.

Our love is greater.
So I will cling tight
to your whispering memory,
as it rips and tears
at my very essence
with its unforgiving maw.

We will not be ended.
We will not dissipate
into nothingness.

Instead,
we will re-form my spirit
with the force of yours.
Stronger than before
and so be able to
run faster,
farther,
longer…

Until it is ready to feed again.

One question as well. Should it be "backward" or "backwards"?

Tammy<333,

Sad poem.

Either backward or backwards is proper where you use it.

Dear Tammy...the dark tunnel of grief only makes you more aware of the power of love.  So much living proof of that in the emotional pull of this poem. Hugs!

K-K,

Thank you so much... It doesn’t have the power to defeat me… Larry will always hug me tight and give me enough strength to survive it.

--------------------------------------------------

Marge,

“My dear lady ... where memories live
nothing ... nothing
can take the good ones from us~”

And this is exactly what gives me the strength and power to endure… Larry is with me for always and forever. Thank you for your words Marge, they mean more than you could know.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roniece,

Now I’m the one lost for words… Thank you my friend. I feel like I am the one who has been gifted with all of you and I am so grateful for it…

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Martie,

You are so right, that damn tunnel does make you VERY aware doesn’t it? Thank you for your words Martie, they mean more than you could know.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seoulair,

Thank you so much my friend. I am very happy you liked it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

James,

Thank you, I’m glad you liked it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Passing Shadows,

Thank you. It is relentless but at times necessary.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to all of you! I stared at the submit button for quite a while before finally clicking on it with this one… I wasn’t sure why. Maybe cause it is a little bit different than the ones that came before it. Either way, I am so happy I did post it… Thanks again.
