Memories of Yesterday
By Paul Wilson

Long forgotten like so many things
shrouded by passage of time
Covered with cobwebs and dust
a box of memories and rhyme

Tales of a maiden from long ago
with skin as soft as fallen snow
Long blonde hair to her waist
eyes shining all a glow

Childhood stories remembered by all
how Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
The bean stalk climbed by Jack
it was so big and tall

A few words of rhyme written by me
long before I knew I could
Childhood dreams and fantasies
I was always misunderstood

Heartache and pain long ago buried
without remorse in fields of stone
I’ve lived my life in solitude
my greatest memory is being alone

Wipe off the cobwebs and dust
open the box of yesterdays dreams
Release your hold on me
the time has come it seems

Fear not for what might be
or what was but may never be
The cost of suffering you see
must be paid by me
if I am ever to be free
