His soul is the brimming cup of misery,
And his heart a chamber of sorrow,
And his mind an empty corridor, dark
And silent, except for the footfall of death.

"O happiness, you have forsaken me, utterly!
I must go now, bravely, like a man,
Like the warrior I am, without shield
And armor to oppose the night!"

Okonkwo is a fictional character in Chinua Achebe's novel, "Things Fall Apart". He is a tribal chieftain who loved to tend his little garden and to get drunk on palm wine and Lie in his hut amid his wooden household gods who were emblems of his ancestors. He committed murder resisting the work of the missionaries who came to Africa to convert the natives of the lower Niger Valley. He is about to be hanged, but commits suicide.

It appears, gilead, that you adapted your poem very well to the gist of the story.

I appreciated this work. Thank you!
