modern skies

panic holds still, blood in stone
from faces buried long ago -
the coliseum yet stands in Rome.

affectionate Sun today still shines,
steadfast light toward kinder minds
in loathing, anger and fear.

Modern skies are clear.

should have buried long ago
with runners' dreams and lion bones.
momento of what man became
the mausoleum stands in shame.

beautiful. I like this poem.
If sky had eyes, it would have cried to blind.

I hope we have become kinder and not just substituted forms of cruelty. Very moving verse.  I enjoyed reading it.  Thanks for sharing

this is a really nice poem, there are some great images. And there is some emotion that flows with these words, i can feel it.
