There is dirt
Under my nails

And my dead father says
So what

John,

Your dead father was correct.  Dirty hands mean you have been working.

No one should ever try to hide their hands.

All you need to do is to wash your hands.

My father will ask me to wash hands after So what.
I read it as a recollection of a conversation between father and child.

I am sorry if I have been offending you, dear John.

Have a nice evening.
I understand what you said. You have written some poems about your father.

This wisdom of our fathers serves as a good reality check.  What's really important- alittle dirt under your nails- Who cares.  Thanks for the pleasure I loved the simplicity of your writing and the many layers of meaning found in your verse.
