Birdsong
by Linda L. Dowd

I awoke to the cooing
Of a dove on the sill,
And to the sweet melody
Of a meadowlark's trill.

The robins were chirping
As they welcomed in spring,
And from up in the treetops,
Tiny sparrows did sing.

The mew-calls of catbirds
And the buntings’ loud voicing,
Joined the musical refrains
Of birdsong rejoicing.

Goldfinches did twitter,
Hummingbirds hummed in tune,
With thrushes and starlings
And the lone call of loon.

The orioles were whistling
As scarlet tanagers sang,
And all through the morning
Their sweet musicals rang.

Chickadees and blackbirds
And cardinals and jays,
Joined the chorus of warblers
In a sing-song of praise.

I awoke to a morning
Filled with glorious singing,
Of songbirds rejoicing
What the new day was bringing.

Dear Linda,

Very nice work on this poem, I like it.

Where are the pigeons?  I know, they’re the doves.

Oh, Linda dearest Angelo Terrestre, here you are and bring joy to this new day ... dawn here right now, almost 5am.

What a glorious song you share, beautiful soul! Thank you from my heart for touching it with your beauty.

Love and hugs.

Your sweet gentle voice is as calming as the songbirds.  What a lovely combination this is!

I can't hear the music or you but can almost see all the birds   and I must say that it was a lovely sight.

"Of songbirds rejoicing
What the new day was bringing."

Loved the catalogue of songbirds, but my favorite part was the message of hope and the reason for their song...thanks for the uplifting...

May they (nor the Spring) ever be 'silent!'...

This 'penning' is a fine tribute to our feathered brethren and to Spring!
