When I was but a boy of nine,
I knew not of vespertine,
All I knew was end of day,
Was the time to cease my play.

By the time I turned sixteen,
I knew not of world's unseen,
My universe, a solipsist,
What was beyond did not exist.

When I turned age twenty-four,
I knew that there was something more,
But what it was I did not know,
T'was twenty-four when first felt woe.

By thirty-eight, at middle-age,
I had a thirst, to quench, assuage,
No more I sought of love and laughter,
Yet knew not what I was after.

Years flew by, age fifty-one,
I felt as if life near was done,
It ate at me, this unseen cancer,
A wasted life without an answer.

Tonight I gazed on heaven's high,
At day's end as night drew nigh,
At sixty-nine, I first espied,
Vespertine, and then I died.

I sense something profound in this.
I like that.

This makes me feel sad… A life that did not find its meaning until its end… Beautiful and sad.
