A lone, brown leaf on the patio floor, Did I, without knowing, see it in the tree When it was yet green and vibrant in the wind? It’s eerie, as if it came by to say goodbye, Or consider me, for I am the reflection of your destiny. I took it in my hand, and held it tenderly Before my eyes, as if to cling to the remnant Of my own life turning brown in forced detachment. I said words to it (or for ir) and took it in, To find a place for it upon a shelf, Where it would lie in state in the place dedicated To the dead poets whose voices still sing to life. |

My journal indicates this was written a year after my retirement in 2001, while I was under the influence of a fine Bordeaux! Art |

I like this - it speaks well of you and of your Bordeaux! Is the leaf still on the shelf? A |
