we sit,(anxiously)
by the fire,
familiar strangers, (resist, resist)
both no longer remember
how to trust, or why.
the light of the flame
plays upon your face, (silent silhouette)
isolated and violated,
you hide behind your smile,
while i search in vain for
what i know should be in
your eyes, but isnt.
in the splintered embers
of the dying moon, (waxing and waning)
we part, (reluctance)
with tears in our eyes,
and loneliness echoing from
our footsteps,
our souls in disarray. (confusion)
we have met our meridian,
our time has come to pass,
we both pause and look back,
hoping against hope , (say it, SAY IT!!)
but it no longer matters,
goodbye.....(my soul)....

Powerful, and written with a convincing, dramatic flair filled with deep emotion. I'll be reading this again and again.
