A wave of black, angry ink
Washed ashore
And stained the crystal grains
And happy shells
And cockled hearts
Of all who kiss the tide
And on those
Who drink the foam
And love the sun
Till all the refinement
of the Poet voices, cry

Choked by Your hand
Frozen by Your gaze
One cannot but wonder
How you'd not seen beauty there -
Dismissed our work out of hand
Could you not hear the groans of birth?
Are they invisible?
Like lustrous concretions
Evolving between sheltering lids of stone
Forming concentric layers of nacre, bone;
From mother-of-pearl it fed
But forced opened early, you said
"Worthless!"

And then an amazing thing happened
When some sweet voice was heard to say:

“I polished bright
the shells you tossed
and saw a reflection
in what was lost
I only wish you could see
brilliant and true
circles of me
endlessly bound by
oceans of blue”

And with this simple proclamation
The gloomy tide returned the darkest
Depths of the sea.

(In the end,
it still is the distillation
of Our poet hearts
that turn our words to foam.
Where, with hope, will breed Storms
powerful enough to block
the blackest of tides return!)

Robert, your poet's words could stem the bleed of any broken heart. They could turn the dark of night into the light of day ~ and evil into the sublime.

A fine write from a fine poet.

I simply love this piece...both the gloom and then the ray of light that shines through
