If “mind” is some phantasmagoric
Confluence of electron interaction,
What, then, is the mind of an electron?
By what sense of reckoning does it choose
To congregate and create these visions
Behind the darkened eyeballs in the isles
Of slumber? And, anyway, what is
The composition of a vision, its mass,
Its inertial moment, as it spins in the immaterial
Something-ness we call the abstract?

If we leave it all to probabilities, quantum randomness,
How does the mechanical meanderings of presumably
Mindless electrons manage to dream, then write a play?

Something writes the script, gathers the cast of characters,
Then produces and directs the action! And all is less substantial
Than thin air, and all while the master sleeps!

Intriguing, puzzling, and as empty as silence!

I dabble in physics and philosophy, and the more I probe theses questions, the more befuddled I become!

Hello Art very interesting poem ...How can electrons in our brains be the directors of the movie we play all day long.... I don't think they are...Electricity and chimical made my brain write this sentence and this is a perfect mistery....

  have a very nice day

Hello, yann. Yes, it really is a fascinating subject. I suppose I'll be contemplating all of my life but never know the answer. But anyway, its nice to have the inclination to dig into the mysterious.

interesting thought.
The jumping of Electrons form a tiny cloud, not big. limited distance its comfortable zone. But it is not the only ...trons. There are other trons..

Love the read. Smart poem.

And there are people who are foolish enough to think that such a mysterious miracle just suddenly ends and all of our hopes and dreams die with our earthly containers.

I agree, Ida. I think the difficulty is that we are trying to understand something that goes beyond the mechanics of electron behavior, and that something is the mysterious beyond that will endure in a form beyond our wildest imagining.

Thanks for the comment,

I enjoyed your comment, Seoulair. Those other "trons" speak to what Ida suggests.

Thanks, and best wishes,

Gilead,

Electrons don't think, or reason.  They don't have to.  They are part of the physical plant.  In one form or another, they last forever.

Thanks, Bobby. I was using the "mind" of the electron as a vehicle to convey my thoughts on the formation of dreams without conscious input from the dreamer, except at the subconscious level, which is another mystery, at least for me.

the "mind" of the electron is potential energy and how it becomes kinetic. the mechanics and chemistry of the process are found in the control templates of one's evolved gene patterns and the resulting protein syntheses.

also, "choosing" is not a reality. it is a creative "mind" fantasy. the mind does not experience free will. it is controlled by genetic templates.

return to newton's law of universal gravitation and einstein's theory of general relativity for more focus.

the idioverse of the mind as viewed by rosenzweig is an intriguing adventure into the world of creativity!

Gilead,

In my opinion, the conscious and its product the subconscious are all part of the continuation of "life", which some people believe can be traced to lights interaction with the original non-living world.  The physical plant--where the physical plant has existed forever.

Of course, that's only my opinion.  I've been wrong before.

Your comments are intriguing. If there is no free will, what is the actual agent of controlled and purposeful creativity? Is it a derivative of quantum randomness? If so, what determines the genetic outcome of an Einstein rather than an average Joe like myself? It seems that at some level choices are made, so who/what is the chooser?

I am inclined to follow your reasoning, Bobby. There is more to this grand experience than meets the empirical eye.

Thanks again,

Gilead,

You really have no choice.  It's all determined by that great "everything", some people, like me, refer to as God.

each lives within a system of beliefs...some aspects are intuitive, thus, leaving glitches in the thought process for one to ponder in reaching for consistency...don't believe i can give you a suitable answer to your 4 questions but would agree, at times, ... "it seems"...

I love your "wondering" poem! There is indeed enormous fascination in studying what goes on in our brain. There is such a degree of perfection in these mechanisms, that really we just can stand in awe and think that there is a Choreographer behind all of this. It is frustrating to not KNOW, but one day we will know, I believe. Meanwhile the passionate research goes on.

Love,
Margherita
