Sally’s got a chip
on her shoulder
a mile long, and a
half-mile wide.

She’s constantly
in the face
of any authority.

She’s younger
than the rest of the kids
in her class,
but she dresses like
a grown woman.

She’s got the bright red lipstick,
and the long dangling ear-rings.

Her dress is so tight,
you can see just about
everything.

They have trouble
figuring her out at school.

They know she’s bright,
because she’s constantly
acing her tests.

She never bothers to take
homework home,
she does it right there in school.

What the academic world
doesn’t know about Sally
is that she hates them with a passion.

She does well
just so she can rub
her aggressive attitude
in their face,
and get away with it.

She’s one bitter young lady.

Bobby

I don't know enough about Sally to understand her bitterness, but she must have been hurt and betrayed along the way but, nevertheless she's got what it takes---survival skills and brains to boot. Enjoyed!

School can be a hard place (especially back then) for kids who don't have much and have a difficult home life. It's even harder for kids like Sally who know they have what it takes and society shuns them because of a situation that is not their fault.

Thanks dear Susan,

I’m afraid Sally does not give out her age.  She is a few years younger than I am, and I’m 71 going on 100.

Sally and I are currently separated.  I will see her at my youngest boys delayed wedding reception soon.

Thank you for your interest.

Love Bobby

Thanks Art,

Yes, Sally is a wonderful woman.  She has survived very well.  She remains a toughie.

Thanks dear Ida,

You nailed it.  That's exactly what happened to Sally.  She really has done very well in academia, against great odd.

She's a real expert.

When life gives you lemons, it's difficult to not become somewhat soured. Sally may not have turned the lemons into lemonade, but she had the chutzpah to not let the acid of the lemons burn her! Her skin thickened and she stood strong. Sally is solid as a rock.

I'm proud of Sally who doesn't like Academic world, I share this attitude with her and I'm glad she understands the world this way....

Thanks Yann,

Like I say, the reason she has always done so well in school was to show people that she could.

Having 'evolved' from a socialist into a philosophic anarchist...
[I no longer have faith in any hierarchal system of power and
control...all government and 'isms' eventually morph into
manipulation and exploitation of the many by the (self-referential)
few...]

I can most assuredly relate to being:

"constantly
in the face
of any authority(!)"

Applause (on many levels) for this 'penning!'

Thanks Secondhanddreampoet,

I'm very pleased that you could relate to this.  Sally is very much an anarchist.  She sees through pretty much everything.
