For the Late, Donald Pleasence
Who played the part so well.

We watched him open the bottle
with a sensuous grace, a ritual
of high and deliberative purpose!

His nimble fingers held the bottle
in a gentle caress so deft and attentive,
as if the two were lovers!

Slowly, slowly . . .

the wine flowed into the crystal receptacle,
itself, elegant, and finely crafted.

Ah, came the moment, an eternal pause, as we levitated
in an air of anticipation—the master sipped!
From his refined tongue flowed poetry—mysterious

utterances we ordinary mortals weren’t privileged
to comprehend!

Oh, what power of command!
Such presence of mind to share the moment, divine!

Oh, to endure the tender graces
of the consummate, insufferable snob!

I had a lot of fun writing this after watching an episode of "Colombo" some years ago.

And I had a lot of fun reading it. Now, I'd like a glass of wine, please.

Hi, Ida. Blessed are those that desire much wine, but drinks little. More blessed are those that desire much wine, but drinks none! I think you and I have a keen understanding on these points.

Have a great day,

Art

I'm a big admirer of both wine and Donald Pleasence. I saw him playing 'Davies: in 'the Caretaker' it was a fantastic performance and this was a thoroughly entertaing read...

Hello, Simon. Appreciate your comment. I,too love a little wine, and I'm certainly a big fan of Mr. Pleasence. Ida and I share some common history on the subject of alcohol, thus my reference to moderation and/or abstinence. After retiring from the corporate rat race, I found that I could indeed drink in moderation. At one point in the mid 90s I wondered if I would have to abstain altogether.

Have a fine day,

Art

Hello Art, every evening i drink a tasty glass of wine with my favorite cheese (caprice des dieux)...I usually drink a little Cotes de bourg (bordeaux) not too expensive...This week the bottle is a Monbazillac (sweet yellow wine), i like too Jurançon (these wines are not too expensive and i really recommend them)...

Have a nice day
