Lord Baron Aldwulf

In the shadow of the castle
that sits high upon yon hill.
The peasants cringe in terror
upon a full moons advent still.

The ancients whisper of a bloodthirsty beast
that once in it's bowels did dwell.
The creature whose name is forbidden yet to speak
Aldwulf, the unholy Lord Baron from hell.

Behind heavy bolted doors and shuddered windows
around the hearth fires that burn.
The olden ones in somber tones recant the foretelling
of the nefarious Lord Baron's return.

Behind high castle walls within dark halls
confined by ethereal chains.
For thirty-nine years thirteen times three
the Baron's evil spirit remains.

Imprisoned there in sepulchral despair
awaiting this one Aprils night.
When some curious fool will wander through
and unleash the demon sprite.

Yet again upon this forlorn village weak
tonight Aldwulf's cruel wrath will fall.
Lest one of pure and noble heart comes forth
to sacrifice his life, his soul, his all.

A stranger whose birth was upon this very date
thirty-nine years ago to the day.
A stranger whose destiny was to travel here
through selfless act the demon slay.

All eyes in the drear Boar's Head tavern
turned questioningly upon me then.
As the graybeard elders did hopeful inquire
your birth date, please tell us when?

For time grow's short mere minutes yet remain
the moon has risen high.
Tell us kind sir, are you our answered prayer
are you willing for us to die?

The question hit me like a hammer
I near fell from my stool.
Oh no not me, I answered them
I'm not your April fool!

I was born mid September
in the year of fifty-two.
I'm no demonslayer not me
I wouldn't have a clue!

Aldwulf will awaken tonight, they said
our hero, he will be you.
Your birth date is a mere technicality son
your just gonna have to do.

StevenS,

Yeah, I got a kick out of this one.  Great punch line.  Nothing like an old Dracula movie.
