Felix discovered
the first basic truth of life
when he was fresh born.

The mid-wife picked him up by the heels,
and smacked him hard on the rump
to make him scream.

Life is cruel,
and it’s going to make you cry.

The second basic truth of life
came to him from his friend Wawa.

Felix was having a hard time of it.
Wawa told him that his best helping hand
was right there at the end of his right arm.

Felix has been grabbing stuff ever since.

Bobby

Some would say Wawa was a bit of a pessimist.
I kind of think of him as a realist.

Ira,

Wawa was very much a realist, and very much a real person.  He was a tough guy.  It just didn't pay to mess around with Wawa.  At the same time, he had an unbelievable work ethic.  He was always out there trying to make some money.  The last time I talked to him was in 1963, when I came home from the Army.  He had his very own news stand under City Hall.  Every day, all day, work work work, that was Wawa.

You had to respect him for that.  By now he probably owns half the world or perhaps he’s died from overwork.

There is also the possibility that he's locked up.  So many of the old gang are.

I haven't talked to him lately.

Bobby

Dear RDB,

That's good, I hope you keep smiling.  Smiling is fun to do.
