That final moment
when the first leaf falls
from its tree,
beginning and end.

just one little leaf,
twisting and twirling
in the autumn air,
falling to its lonely death.

just one little leaf,
browned and cracked from old age,
its birth not so long ago.

just one little leaf,
doing its final dance
in the autumn wind,
while you watched.

had you looked beyond the leaf
at my window with the
curtains drawn,
you'd have seen me fall;

just one old man,
twisting and falling
in the autumn air,
my time not much longer than
the leaf that so entranced you.

just one old man,
when i cried i cried my mother's tears,
when i failed i felt my father's shame,
and when i lived it was in my
daughter's eyes.

just one old man, just one little leaf,
both taking the same path
to mortality,
both returning to the same earth that
granted them life not so long ago,
and both falling from a tree

rooted in despair,
branching out into oblivion ...

Wow. I've read this twice, and will probably
read it a few more times.

I find a quiet power in this poem, it seems
to grow with intensity in the silence of
a room.

Much enjoyed. Thank you.

Every time I watch this final dance, I think of the quiet surrendering to what is ... and what the leaf does we can do too.

Very very sensitive and beautiful write.

Love and welcome to Pipland!
