Sometimes Felix
doesn’t want to think about it.

He doesn’t want to be there.

So he just ups and leaves
his poor, hurting
body behind.

He goes somewhere else,
where it doesn’t hurt so much.

He doesn’t feel what’s
going on down there.

He’s above all that,
that’s none of his concern.
He way above it all.

That’s not him down there,
he doesn’t know that person—
no, that’s not his concern,
what’s going on down there.

He’s not there,
and never has been there.

No, that’s not him down there.

He doesn’t want to be
involved with all that.

It looks like it
might hurt too much.

No way,
that’s not for him.

He’s out of there.
You’ve never
seen him there.

That’s not him.

Bobby

He was not alone.  None of us were - we just didn't know that we were not alone.  That's a sad commentary in itself.  You write heart-breaking, but important poetry.  Thank God, you show us the other parts of Felix.  His strength, intelligence and humor definitely served him well.

Alison,

Thanks for reading, and for your kind comments.

Sometimes the trade hurts, and you've got to get away for a minute or two.

Art,

Thanks for your kind response.  Sometimes you just have to get away from the ugliness of the rat race.

This survival mechanism works well for me too. Felix was smart to figure out what worked for him.

Dear Ida,

You and Felix, you're soul mates.  That's for sure.

I'm glad that works for you too.

Yann,

It seems that's a common mechanism for dealing with intolerable situations.

Felix loves you right back.

Thanks for your kind words.

Yes, this is a survival mechanism and Felix has learned the art of detachment for his own good.

Either that or a good cry that will bring along a good sleep and then you can cope again.

Thank you, Bobby.

Love,
Margherita

Dear Margherita,

Felix thanks you for your kind advice.

Now you know, Felix would never--ever cry.  It's not in his repertoire.
