Had I Not

Had I not, the vision and the breath so bold
To follow beta mandate, letting time unfold
Flowed in percussion all that I could hold
Had I not, found the beauty of every day
Cherished, in a certain way of living
Seen the possibilities, found only in forgiving
First myself, and then my heart
Had I not, let the days depart
Certain that the good would come
Surrendered, to such randomness as done
Had I not, chanced what deep inside could not wait
Found, the green grass far more supple let time pass with fate
Draw the straw for my slipper, drunk so deeply from love’s dipper
Had I not, had I not
Would there be another sunrise to discern?
Would I know the fire so intimate to burn?
Had I not, found the courage in my truth
Spoken clearly, even dearly as my way of living proof
Had I not, had I not,
Would you?

ThisDiamond,

This poem has a rather nice cadence with the repeated phrase.  I like it.
