Butch’s sister Eileen
was our neighborhood
crazy girl.

Butch didn’t want
to talk about it.

No one could figure out
just why Eileen acted
the way she did.

She was a pretty girl
that had strange ways.

Eileen was always
in your face,
shouting profanities.

She swore like a trooper.
No one could figure her out.

Social workers
at the settlement house
threw up their hand
in despair for her.

All Eileen would do
was screaming at them.

Right in their face,
she’d scram, and curse.

Trucker used to park
their rigs on the street.

They seemed to be Eileen’s
primary interest.

She’d be away each night,
sleeping with a different one.

She just didn’t care.

Her mother
couldn’t do a thing
with Eileen,
and gave-up early.

It was just no use.

She’d spend time
walking under the El,
with a crazed look
in her eyes.

Felix went into the Army,
when he came back,
Eileen was gone.

She had disappeared
into thin air.

Nothing good
could have happened
to Eileen.

Felix often thinks about her,
and the horror
that surly befell her.

Butch never talks about her,
none of us do—
we can’t.

Bobby

Sounds like Eileen had some very serious problems and there are always those who will take advantage of a situation like that. That's just the way things are.

Dear Ida,

Yes, that's the way it is in the big city.  There are always rats around.

Dear RDB,

Yes it did.  Butch and I avoid talking about it.

James,

Yes, I can believe that.  It happens quite often.  You have to hope for the best.

Hopefully Eileen moved to another City and she is alright...in this situation, now the man they suspect for her disappearance is saying that he accidentally hit her with his work truck, and not wanting to lose his job he tried to bury her, and when that didn't work, he wrapped her in plastic, walked her into the ocean and released her to the deep...at least he is confessing now and the case will be going to trial...I always thought when you accidentally hit someone, you called the police and let them handle it...unless there is something to hide...

James,

No, probably not for Eileen--Eileen wasn't the kind of girl that would be alright anywhere.  She was also the kind of sad girl that wouldn't be missed by anyone.

Thanks for reading and commenting.
