Friends Indeed

The darkest day in time has passed.
Our Savior is entombed.
With the passing of our one bright hope
Mankind is surely doomed.

He came, he said, from up above
To bring the Father's word
To show us how to save our souls.
His message went unheard.

We've killed the dearest friend we had.
Our future now is dire.
Betrayed by one who'd been his friend
A traitor and a liar.

Those of us who truly loved him
Are in the deepest pain.
We cling to promises he made
That he will rise again.

Tomorrow we'll walk to his grave
To roll the stone away.
We hope to find an empty tomb
Upon a glorious day.
