Stranded

Stranded on this tiny island for days, years, a lifetime.
The loss of time has been unimportant to this empty soul.
His only companions are the sun, the moon, and the radiant stars.
He climbs to the highest point of his little world
only
to see a cool ocean expanding far into the horizon of the deep.
Where he stands in frightened anxiety, he watches the sun fall off
the edge of the universe, only to return when the gods command the return of
her glowing fireball of beauty.
A command to release secrets to this stranded mortal,
secrets of life and the meaning of immortality.
The exotic birds of his new home are of the brightest colors that
man has ever seen and as delicate as a butterfly in flight.
These beauties of nature are filled with the music of a sweet mystical rhapsody
filling him with unabashed tranquility.
One evening a week-
He knows it is a week of time, for he counts the going of light, the filling of starlight within the heavens, then the returning of the sun
filled light once again.
He sits high atop his lonely island and listens to the sounds
drifting across the rolling waters.
He’s sure he hears these illusions of sound, the violin, the drum her low distinct rumble, the strains of the ivory keys of the piano.
He hears this beauty just as the sun begins her descent into the portal of darkened starlight.
The deep longing to hear the laughter of an innocent child fills him with overwhelming sadness.
Going from day to day not being touched or caressed with a gentle word.
The only hope is that one-day he will be found and encircled with loving arms.
Rescued from his tiny island-
No longer stranded. No longer a lost soul of the universe.

A beautiful write, dear Bonnie. Solitude can be really tough, even if there is the world unfolding around us in all its beauty ... there can be this kind of confinement where the sounds of love do not arrive.

Well rendered!

Love,
Margherita

Bonnie j,

This is very well done.  "Stranded" is something to be avoided.

The ice cream shop down the corner just opened for the season.  I think I had better get a cone.
