Abused children sometimes,
not often,
grow up to be dangerous adults.

Felix has a little book.
He keeps it in his back pocket.

In it,
he has penciled in
some names in black,
and some names in red.

It’s really just a list,
of all his clients
that have ever treated him
rotten.

It’s really a pretty long list.

There are not many
names in Red, only those
he really wants to get.

Some of the red names
have tiny knives
inscribed beside them.

This could just be a phase
he’s going through.

Perhaps he’ll get over it,
and throw his little book away.

Perhaps he won’t.

Bobby

James,

Thanks for the read, and for your good wishes.

All of those creeps died years ago.  Father time, and Saint Peter took care of them for me.

Hi Bobby!  I ordered a copy of your book.  If I send it to you, will you sign it?  I'll split the fortune with you when it sells on eBay after you win the Pulitzer

This poem is another grand piece of the personal/universal mosaic.  I remain in awe of your ability to draw from the gut, distance yourself, and lose none of the power.  Your head/heart gift is a gift.

Best, Jim Aitken
