One can happen upon them in museums
Or with the proper permissions
Study them at length in archival vaults

Those inscrutable writings in stone
Clay, parchment or paper

And whether they’re testament, proclamation
Grocery list or graffiti

Or that they are to be read from right to left or
Top to bottom is the stuff of scholars
And no concern of mine

I’m merely taken with their doggedness
And the poetry of their antiquity

Neither moribund, nor ossified
I admire how these ancient characters
Continue on in their long-dead hand

The ranks and files of angular stick figures
That alternately pull, push, carry and drag
The rounder, riper glyphs, yielding in nature

Herding them in ones and twos
Unresisting through the millennia
Lowing in their acquiescence

Them "deadfolk" seem a heap smarter than the vast majority of live ones these days. Nice to read you again, Ed.

Wranx is baaaack! ~ and so are his glyphs!

All of your writings should be etched in stone to preserve them for posterity!

Giving you a warm, welcome-back hug,

Linda
P.S. Don't be such a stranger! Perhaps you could pop into pip 4 times or more per year! ~ Instead of your usual semi-annual visits! Hmm! I just had a thought! You seem to return around Easter and Christmas! ~ Very curious indeed! lol

The musty scent of ancient manuscripts tickled my nose reading this, dear wranx. It's a treat to read your rare words, and to envision you by candle-glow deciphering those ancient stones and parchments. Thanks for the visit!!!

grinnin huge here Ed.  It is SUCH a pleasure to read you again and as always,
the depth of your writes still amaze me.
and I really can envision you there, sitting by candlelight pondering as you write...

Always a treat to greet you sir, no matter how often the visits come, as long as they continue to come.
