For a sesquicentennials
The old town is still there
Where memories begin and end
Where people lost and found their heart again

July 1846, her face looked forlorn
Her eyes witnessed the wood
That's being hewed down
Now, nothing is left but a solitary blue

Even the sky is crying
She knew that the day she’s dying
Into the blue, she knows
As soft as an autumn breeze can blow

A ray from the sun went through her face
Making shapes out of the willow
Seems like the ray is feeling down too
As it fade away, becoming the shadow of yesterday.

A very interesting write. I can think of several things during that time frame that fit, including Donner Pass, the Irish famine, and the Mexican-American War.
Was there another event, perhaps in VietNam that generated this write?
It is very well written, and conveys a sense of foreboding, loss and doom, and piques my interest as to the historical perspective of your July 1846 reference.

Midnitesun, you are right about what was my intention.

It was the American - Mexicans and the Great Irish Famine wars that I was writing about. It is really sad to see loss isn't it.

Everyday of my life, I see them passing me by.

Thank you, baohan, for the reply and the email.
You have an excellent grasp of the impact of war on the human psyche.
No doubt you could write with a unique perspective of the aftermath of the wars in Viet Nam. America's involvement in Viet Nam was referred to by Frances Leonard as another of our 'immoral misadventures' that paralleled our Mexican/American war. My own thoughts are the current involvement in Iraq is an equally misguided disaster.
Keep that pen busy, for you have much to offer.
