Never close enough

I hate that time of night
when rest just cant be found
I close my eyes to darkness
your memory all around

I wake to a ghost each morning
remembering where and when
I recall all the smiles and tears
and places that we've been

A time so long ago
you'd think years would dull the pain
I should be used to lonely by now
But somehow its just not the same.

Nothing erases your memory,
especially the one in my heart
I can still see your face
it's like fate didnt make us part.

I curse the day you left
and I thank God for the day we met
I wish I could have the latter
'cause I just cannot forget.

Sometimes, it just isn't worth it to chew through the restraints....

Tina  it is debatable which takes the longest to heal. The heart or the mind. But heal they will & you must have faith and believe that, wishing you a speedy recovery   John

Your words are powerful, reminds me of mine. Hope you find relief in your writing, if that's possible. Love the last lines

Healing is process, and process embodies time. There is a depth within each of us where the healing waters flow. It's the courage to reach within that matters, and to give the wounded heart relief. Your poem touches me in a special way. I wish you well.
