Conversing With Night

You have horded all my subconscious thoughts
Staring into black fog, just the writhing of an empty chest
Jarring me from my bed, and from my sleep in taunt
Of all my dreams, laid down and let to rest
You are both Siren and Cybil veiled in mystique so vague
You are the sable times, the quiet peace
An understanding arm around my waist, and rocking shoulder sage
Leaving sweat to gleam my body, and tears to moist my cheeks
Your beauty; unrelenting, as to this end time speaks
Calling out to me, through the silence of the trees
The unmistakable reminder in native wisdom born of these
I wish to grasp your cloak, and pull you to the guise of day
Strip away your mighty mask, and let these dreams to play
Interned within your brilliance, are the souls of no return
Those I miss and those that miss me, vapor trails eternal burn
But this one remarkable star, that raises cane as able are
Your skirted eve, stripped down to bone
Indemnified, in wishes sown, and as I wake to peer the depths
Your damped touch and lingered breaths
Oh night bestow, the inner sight of need to know
And know the truth, my course and cause, and linger on til dawn to pause
I loved him then, I love him now; in your embrace the fates endow
A moment deep and quiet still, where dreams are kept against my will

Fine images such as:

“the silence of the trees…
native wisdom born of these”;

and especially the ending:

“A moment deep and quiet still, where dreams are kept against my will”

Applause!
