Midnight Pass

I remember,
you said I was too emotional
maybe it is
that I feel too much
but better than
feeling
nothing
I run to the gulf
when I feel too much
or spaces between me
find themselves empty
so there is no notice of the salt
I find myself there again
on Midnight Pass
mingling from
recent commotion out at sea
in raging storm
a disturbance to penetrate a soul
new water flowed to this shore
from a place distant
stained black sand feet
wandered the beach bag in hand
searching my bones for bones
that the gulf threw out in rage
cleaning out the cellar floor
forced treasures at my feet
purple banded tulips, olives
murex, conk, and jewel boxes
I went to the shore so empty
and left smiling with more
beach flowers than I could
carry

"no darkness has ever been deep enough to extinguish my personal knowledge of love"  Anne Rice

1slick_lady,

There is a primordial attachment of all human life with the ocean.  It’s useless to resist it.  Nice work on this poem.

Simply lovely.

This just was the perfect ending, I believe.

I went to the shore so empty
   and left smiling with more
   beach flowers than I could
   carry

Sometimes the lovely things in life, the most simple, the smallest gifts heal our insides.  I love the beach - I love the empty, stormy, beach-grass-blowing beach.
