Dogs Race On (Villanelle) Intrepid dogs run hard as north wind blows Spirit burns, fans fires that will not cease Silent sleds glide over ice-crusted snow Racer melds with dogs, share desire to go Crossing mountains with deceptive ease Intrepid dogs run hard as north wind blows Facing struggles few people care to know Competition fuels desire to please Silent sleds glide over ice-crusted snow Senses heighten; tensions build and grow Race distances narrow, sled’s speed increase Intrepid dogs run hard as north wind blows Legs stretching out, dogs trot in double rows Guard hairs protect canines from winter's freeze Silent sleds glide over ice-crusted snow Dark horizon shattered as town lights glow First place beckons like a flirtatious tease Intrepid dogs race hard as north wind blows Silent sleds glide over ice-crusted snow --- Alison [This message has been edited by Alison (03-10-2008 09:35 PM).] |

Alison, In the mid 70's I was lucky enough to spend 6 months in Anchorage, Although I never saw the iditarod itself, I did speak to a number of guys that took part. This brought back a lot of good memories for me... John |

Simon, I am always trying new things. I read the critical analysis section a lot (tho, I am too timid to put any of my work on that board). I also go through the Poetry and English Workshop sections. I keep changing this poem as I see things that I think will make it better. One day, I want to write a really good! Villanelle. Thank you so much for the kind words and for reading my efforts. Linda, I am following the Iditarod like an addict right now. The top racers are wearing a GPS unit for the first time - so I can see what they are doing all the time. OmG! I am so wanting Lance Mackey to win! Anyway, thank you for reading my work and for being so encouraging! xoxoxo Alison |

ms ali-san..dog gone it...bet their hoofies get cold...we have dog races here at the beach too..babes in g strings race to their jags carrying their chi-wawa'z so they don't get sunburned. enjoyed it ms |
