Ask Nothing of Love

Ask not love to be faithful.
Love will betray you, some day.
And, you, also will betray love.

Ask not love to be be wild and free.
Love will bind you into reluctant caring,
Not wishing to care,
Yet, not wanting coldly,
To stop, and again, be alone.

Ask not love to redeem you from loneliness.
You have built your walls,
and you must open out,
Perhaps to love.

Ask nothing of love
but to answer,
Only to answer
To love.

I like this a lot...it reminds me of a saying that I have;

"If you hold no 'expectations,' you will never be disappointed, and you will always be pleasantly suprised."

Good write!

I enjoyed the poem a lot!

Many of the "love" poems that we encounter are really just "lust" poems. I liked your definition of love, found I believe in this line: "Ask not love to be be wild and free. Love will bind you into reluctant caring,
Not wishing to care,
Yet, not wanting coldly,
To stop, and again, be alone."

What normally attracts us to a relationship is somewhat of a mystery: half-intrique, half-lust ... but yet in the end love is not these at all--rather love is made by the will (not the emotions or in the form of sensibility) ... Love binds us ... "till death do us part," "in sickness, and in health."

Very nice!

Welcome to the Passions family RC.  This is lovely verse.  I was reminded of a passage I have read from the author Kent Nerburn.  Love without limitations, or expectations....such a beautiful thing.  Very, very nice indeed.  I hope that you will enjoy your time among us here at Pip.
