It's mostly on a lonely edge she lives.
She talks to grasses in the dunes
on briny afternoons
when seawrack lies in heaps
along the beach.
"You have no place to go," she says.
"You make no choices.  Are you glad?"
A breeze comes off the water
is lifted up the rise,
the beach grass leans;
some whispered answer's there, she knows.
"You are a multitude," she says.
Fine hair slips past her lips.
She shakes her head,
turns to the wind,
looks down again.
Each blade has made an almost perfect circle
at its base as bowing, bent and trailing,
the breeze has driven it around uncounted times.
"Oh Compass Grass," she says, "how do you lie?
You point which way?"
She knows, though, that this compass
isn't one that tells direction.
It's only there (like her?)
to leave a circle
in the sand.

Mr. Pease,
this pleases me.

You gave the woman up to us
and the imagery is beautiful.

Thank you.

We have sand dunes like that not far from me, it is a nice place to find solitude & get away from it all.  Nice writing & welcome to Passions...
