Felix is just standing there,
looking in the gun shop window.

The cop is still standing there,
looking at him.

Felix hates cops.

He remembers when they came
and took his Dad away,
how they roughed his Dad up.

“Yo son,
come here,
I want to talk to you.”

“Yeah, wadda ya want.
I ain’t yer son.”

“Yes, I know you're not.
I’m just as happy
about that as you are.

I want to ask you something.
Are you hungry?”

“Yeah, I could eat.”

“Well--so am I.
Come with me.”

The cop takes Felix up
to the diner north of
Kensington and Allegheny.

Felix gobbles down
two cheeseburgers
and an apple dumpling
with cream sauce dressing.

(Author’s note: “Damn, those things are good.”).

Felix is at a loss
as to what to say.

So he says:

“Thanks,
can I leave now.”

“Yeah,
go head son.
Stay out of trouble.”

Bobby

Make me feel warm. Finally Felix met a kind person, and he even was a Cop.

Yes, these are precious moments when even a Cop's heart feels stirring when he sees Felix.

And I bet those burgers were fantastic.

Thank you for this, dear Bobby.

Love.

Bobby, This reminds me of the Irish cops in the old black & white Cagney type films when I was a kid...Hell, I even remember Batman in monochrome!  John

I'm glad Felix got something to eat, Being hungry is not a good thing. At least Felix got to see a little kindness once in a while.

LadyTom,

Yes, that cop was a good person.  He did not ask for anything in return from Felix.

That is what made the cop such a good person.

Dear Margherita,

Yes the burgers were great, and so was the apple dumpling.  Felix still eats there on occasion, and has for fifty years.

Felix has always been able to present an appearance that calls for pathos.  It's still a great help.  He's lucky that way.

John,

Yes, those movies were good.  I used to watch them for about fifteen cents, and sometimes for free, if you could sneak in--the Saturday matinees--a theater full of screaming kids.

Ida,

That's very true.  Being hungry is no good at all.

Of course, people shouldn't eat too much.  That's both harmful, and immoral.

Dear RDB,

I never saw that movie.

However, a lot of Philadelphia cops are from here in the hood.  The cop may very well have seen himself in Felix.

1slick_lady,

Thanks for caring about all the Felix’s’ in our country.

I know a lot of cops care about the Felix’s, as I say; a lot of them live here in Felix's hood.  They've been to Felix's hell, and have come back.

1slick_lady,

I know that to be true.  It's a sister/brotherhood.

Falling rain,

Thanks for the kind words.  Yes, Felix and I have found there are loads of really good people out there.  There are many good people in the world, and really just a few bad one.

Enjoy your meal.
