Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2008-03-02 04:25 PM

It's a stirring against my breast thing,
as if thoughts are trying to find freedom.
It's soul melding with dark of night
and basking in sun on ice.
It's being led by one word
down a road of poetic expression.

And it's waking up under the moon
shining through the skylight
and capturing memories of a dream.

It's seeing dogs frolicking in the snow,
faces pushed deep, following a scent.
It's my Mother's laughter calling
to hold this moment hostage forever.
It's the afterglow of a dance shared,
fingers linked, faces close in conversation.

And it's simply need demanding satiation,
pictures that must be painted,
and stories only told in a poem.

...

Alison

Yes, it is all that of which you have so eloquently spoken, Poetess Alison.

And your closing stanza was perfect!

"And it's simply need demanding satiation,
pictures that must be painted,
and stories only told in a poem."

~ and m'dear, you paint pictures and tell stories with the best of them!

This is a wonderful challenge response, Alison.
For me, it is often one song, one expression facial expression, one moment in space-time.

this is quite a superb response to that 'poetic challenge!'

For a VERY long time, I have been trying to figure out why any of us 'write'...
for me, 'imaging' is second nature...'sculpting' cascading images into some
kind of (hopefully) 'meaningful'/cohesive whole (poem) is, on the other hand,
excruciating painful...often like tearing off pieces of my soul...and yet, something
that I cannot seem to quit doing (perhaps it is simple compulsive/addictive behaviour...
or escapism from hard-cruel 'reality?' in my case?!)

It is MOST 'instructive' to read what the "P.I.P.-land" poets have been saying
pursuant to that particular challenge!

Most serious and long-sustained applause for this grand-fine 'penning!'

... and listen to your dreams.
Your dreams will tell you what to do...
and what to write.
I am so curious about what your Arctic sky must look like ...
Can you view the stars in your daytime winter sky.
maybe there is not enough daylight in winter to obscure the Moon and stars?
Midnitesun, could you view the stars in the daytime sky when you lived in Fairbankis?

Bruce

You know, I love your challenges.  I think they are the best - I get inspired by them and enjoy the responses of others too.

I also think you are a beautiful word artist.  You know, I see the landscape from your eyes and feel like I have travelled.

That, my friend, is a gift.

Hugs to you,
Alison
