A lonely leaf sits in a tree
All the others have fallen
The twigs and branches bare and thin
The screaming wind is calling

Afraid of heights, this lonely leaf
Looks down upon the ground
He thinks to himself what a pointless life
Whilst trying to look around

I guess he figures he’s going to fall
It’s only a matter of time
He might as well find a soft landing
And leave his home behind

With his final breath the leaf let go
He swayed and rocked in the wind
This lonely leaf his life fulfilled
Has met a brilliant end

Better to die, and sleep
The never-waking sleep, than linger on
And dare to live when the souls life is gone.

Trevor, this was so well written, I could see the leaf in the tree ...
