One On Me

The ol' jukebox was playing
The lights were turned down low
Across the bar sat a Lady
I'd like to get to know.

She was sitting all alone
Staring into her glass
Her eyes, so sad and lonely
I couldn't let it pass.

I tried to catch her eye
To see if she would smile
Ask, if she'd like some company
For, just a little while.

To see if she'd like to talk
If, she needed a friend
A shoulder she could cry on
Not having to pretend.

Tell me of the love she'd lost
One, that she can't replace
I guessed that was her problem
Because that's usually the case.

I know that look very well
Seen, in the mirror each day
As a face looks back at me
In that very same way.

So, bartender, set her up
Give her a drink, on me
And when she looks to say, thanks
Maybe, she'll see, what I see.

Sadness is often mirrored in a glass of whine or brew. A good observational poem of 'everyman'.

It's almost as if she was your mirror. The same look on her as you. Love it.
