Nightingale notes from nomadic lutes
drift seductively on the desert breeze,
born of swaying bodies atop caravan camel-backs
coursing rhythmically over caressing dunes,
and skilled riders astride ancient horse breeds
traversing steep mountain terrain.
Along The Silk Road,
there really are no strangers;
only distant travelers crossing paths,
co-mingling ancient with modern,
east with west.
Though the instruments and music
reflect great diversity between cultures,
the ultimate opus underscores
an underlying fundamental truth:
we are all more alike than different.
For in the blend of such a multitude of harmonies
you will discover similarities abound
which transcend space and time,
transporting the mind and spirit beyond
all walls and boundaries.
Life thrives best within ever-evolving diversity.

*Thanking Yo-Yo Ma (Artistic Director)
and all who created “The Silk Road” CD (Smithsonian Folkways)
for the inspiration.

a 'Universalist' !

Fine ‘write!’

[which ‘sings’ about several of my ‘favorite themes'
“Universality” (the 'connectedness’ of all) and
  tolerance/celebration of diversity in particular!]

I am particularly fond of:

“Along The Silk Road,
there really are no strangers;
only distant travelers crossing paths”

And:

“Though the instruments and music
reflect great diversity between cultures,
the ultimate opus underscores
an underlying fundamental truth:
we are all more alike than different”

Much applause!!

Dear Kacy,

There is so much truth in this poem and so much that we need to learn from each other.  I love this a lot - and I love how you move me deep inside.

I can not choose any one set of lines I like best, MidniteSun. This is so beautifully expressed, and greatly enjoyed.

Midnitesun,

I've consulted outside Alexandria, Egypt a number of times.  I've been to the desert.  You have described the place, and it's wonderfully diverse and generous people well.  They take care of each other.  It’s a matter of survival there.

You make me homesick for the place, and the people.

I know it’s not the “Silk Road”.  It’s the Sahara that I know.

A visitor is never refused anything there, or at my place.

Bobby

My dear lady, this is beautiful. I shall get the CD.
I have tried to read many times but my temperature and my cough kept distracting me.

This is truly a beautiful piece, your classic one.

Have a wonderful weekend, my dear lady!!!!!
