I was too young to remember
The King being overblown and overthrown
Being toppled from his throne
The day the music really died.

It wasn't really my place
To have cried
To shout and scream and mourn
Those memories didn't really belong to me
I wasn't even born.

To me,
The concept of a World before the King arrived
Would have been quite strange.
I was thrust into a World
That he'd already changed.

I never saw him at his peak
I was only ever aware
Of some archaic old antique
And back then,
I didn't care,

But that all seems such a long time ago
Before he was my friend instead of being my foe
Now, I agree with everyone who's ever said
The King's not really dead
Because I feel it too

And when I hear his voice on my stereo
that's when I KNOW
That that's really
True.

Simon,

I remember King George VI very well.  He was a wonderfully courageous leader, and a very fine human being.

Good work on this poem.

this poem is pretty good.

But isn't there a movie and (i think a) book called the King and I?

And when i started reading this i thought of the movie and i was like. "This makes no sence." But then i read the comment before me and then i understood why.

Great work!

Very much Elvis. But I like it being open to interpretation...

Simon,

Elvis?  Oh my, I'm afraid I never cared much for his music.  I know a lot of people do.

I am a fan of this King you evoke here so lovingly.
My mother loved him, I love him, my son loves him ... his voice is very unique and his smile? Unforgettable! And rock'n roll? Wow!

Enjoyed this much.

love
