.

Here we go again
It's another one of those
Windows has encountered a problem
And will have to close

Apparently my hard drive
Must be de-fragmented
Is it any wonder I've
Been rapidly going demented?

I've got to contact my administrator
If the problem should persist
I think sooner rather than later
This will send me 'round the twist

Now my system needs to be re-set
To one of these earlier dates
Well I think a better bet
Is to return it to Bill Gates....

Sunshine

Thanks for the link, that was really good! I never go anywhere without a pen & paper as I get ideas in the unlikliest of places..I also never sit at the 'puter to compose, I always write it our first & bash it around somewhat. Occasionally, I do fire of the first penning witout editing, as one can probably tell, sometimes you just gotta live dangerously....

Thanks for replying, it makes the toil all the more worthwhile.

Regards

John

Sometimes it feels like Home Depot, they usually have a 2 for 1 sale on & I could never resist a bargain Tom! Really though, my Pc has not been the same since I checked out the costs of flights from Vegas to Long Beach with Jet Blue....

John,

You've noticed that too.  This is a good poem that I got a laugh out of.

Computers are grand, and they are improving.

Cursors can make cursers out most of us! I've said my share of epithets and expletives ~ not deleted!

Somehow, hearing of similar problems from across the sea, makes the world seem so much closer. Cyber space ain't that big, afterall!

Enjoyed the laugh ~ but I am also sending you a compassionate hug of understanding!

Perhaps if you were to bless your puter with holy water, that would cast out the system demons!

"rapidly going demented?"  -- The computer does that to me on a regular basis.  I love this one, it made me chuckle.

Tell me about it...I think that Bill Gates should be required to personally respond to at least 1,000 personal house calls per year to fix his junk, as his punishment for all of the computer problems we the consumers experience on a regular bases...if cars had as many problems as computers, and some do, we would drive them over cliffs...the computer experts will tell you that your computer is obsolete and they don't have the parts to fix it, or the cost to fix it will be more than a new computer, so they will gladly sell you a new improved model...ha..ha..ha...James

Bill Gates is so rich
If he fell off a pile of his own money
It would be several minutes
Before he hit the ground.
Of course, he could halve the journey
If he used our English pound.
But of course,
His pile of money
Would keep growing as he falls,
Sorry John,
He's probably got the time
But I doubt he's got the tools.

v. good 'write!' (and all-too-true!!)...

In the 19th./early 20th. century, Bill Gates would have been one of those 'traveling show' snake oil salesmen.  He and some others 'developed' his early software (D.O.S.; etc.) in a garage. His D.O.S. was garbage from the start.  Later, they hung a software 'shell' on top of the same old crappy D.O.S. operating system to imitate (faking it) the Apple 'desktop'  Many of the subsequent versions of the 'Windows' operating system platform still had the same old lousy D.O.S. at their 'core.'  As far as I am concerned, the (highly publicized) 'Vista' operating system is still a 'user-UNfriendly' nightmare as well!  It is hard to believe in the 21st. century, Microsoft still has the lion's share of the market and much of their software is still often highly unstable, non 'user friendly' and often incompatible even with other software from their own corporation! (it is all unconscionably outrageous!)

Chuckling is the first sign of the lift not stopping at all floors, followed by thinking your Pc is playing up…  Thanks for the reply,  John

..............................
James M, Somewhere I have something very similar to what you refer,   Apparently Bill Gates was having a clash with the CEO of Chrysler(?) and said that if cars had advanced at the cost & rate that the PC had, we would all be driving luxury cars with every conceivable feature for pennies. The reply went something like:

If cars did what a computer did when you drove it, the following would happen…..

Every time you performed an illegal manouver, you would have to shut down, close all the windows, open them up again & restart.

When you went to hit the brakes, a message would pop up asking are you sure?

I’ll try and find it for you. I so enjoyed your reply, thanks and have a great weekend in the islands, hope your Lady visits soon…..John

You got that so right, nice reply it brought a smile to my face, Thanks… John

Yep, all we can do is join hands in a unity of frustration .. and to keep ourselves from injuring ourselves bashing on our computer sometimes.

Cursors  united! LOL, more than likely, anyone who ever touched a Windows operating system has let out a string of oaths and considered tossing the infernal 'puter out the window.
Yet here we are, captives of the modern disease 'Gates dementia' and keeping our toes crossed the next version is user-friendly. Poets really are dreamers!
