you were always playful there
in your funny shoe woman skin
pretending you didn't have any more

of those vulnerable things to wear
but that you might go shopping
if I wouldn't mind driving you there

and helping you try things on
in the privacy of the public courtyard
when the worshipers were outdoors

pretending to be pigeons
picking at shadows at arm's length
then flying to wanting more places

up high on their statue's minds

pigeons and statues, reminds me of a day in the park.  Enjoyed your thoughts here, D.

"you were always playful there
in your funny shoe woman skin"

makes me wonder what her skin looks like...
and makes me think she laughs a lot...

worshipers pretending to be pigeons.  I like that scene, I could see it, see them poking around the courtyard.  Nicely done.

where the disrobing
of inhibitions give rise
to thoughts that take wing.

Sounds like a lovely place to meditate...

You know, sometimes your poetry reads like the most intimate whispers.

Like soft air touching each word as I read them.
