I can't let another day go by
without thanking the military
All of those who've gone to war
I want you to know I appreciate
your fight for freedom on foreign shores

I read in the paper and see in the news
our soldiers are dying in ones and twos
in bombed-out streets and hovels deep
where insanity lives and darkness creeps

I see the children that you save
On tv and in the news
I watch the people that you aid
In this war-torn world
Where everyone's afraid

You are brave and oh so strong
to fight for what you believe is wrong
you go without sleep, food and drink
you go without showers, toilets and sinks

You keep the American flag flying high
As you grasp the tiny hand of motherless child
and all those roadside bombs that detonate
killing men and women on every street
We wish we could teach love instead of hate

You wait on mail - and smile at pictures
but in this war, you are the fixtures
your babies are born - when you are away
and you don't get to attend any birthdays

You act fearless, though I know you're scared
You act courageous, because you can
You miss your family and your friends
I wish you could come home
Before the war ends

Haunted by memories of those who fell
those you dragged to shelter & tried to make well
Haunted by screams that don't ever end
Wishing and praying for all of your friends

I honor the military in all its forms
For watching over us around the world
I bless you today and every day
As you battle to keep peace upon earth
So it is for you, on this day I pray

My nephew has just joined the Army over here so this is close to home for me...a sad indictment of the current conflicts faced by these brave kids...say a prayer for me too..

Lynn,

I went on a search to find a link to the handsign
that is now prevalent among those who wish to thank
our servicemen...I cannot find it at the moment, but
if I had, I would have inserted it here.

Thank you for this.

It means a lot to many of us.

That is so good Lynn, so beautifully written, I thank my my lucky stars that we

I am very pro support the troops, in fact, my mom asked me why I where camoflauge when I am not a service person. I say I wear it to SUPPORT OUR TROOPS... they do their duty no matter where they are sent - even in wars that they don't believe in.

I don;t believe they join to fight in wars, rather they join to keep peace in the world. and for that they deserve our undying respect and admiration.
