Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2008-02-20 01:23 AM

It’s an early morning road to nowhere,
obscured by sideways snow, blinding.
Maybe, I am no longer here where I should be,
but landed in North Dakota or Kansas.
It’s too early to know and way too early to care.

The snow keeps drifting, dancing,
teasing my headlights with flirting taunts.
trying to entice my car with come hither looks.
Then offers sultry, suggestive comments
to just follow in its wake and simply enjoy the ride.

(baby)

The wind just keeps blowing, buffeting,
pushing me this way and then over there!
It doesn’t make up its mind easily, you know,
as it blusters with strident demands
until it is broken by the force of the morning train.

It’s an early morning road to nowhere,
but I am hurrying to get there, blindly driving
against snowflakes flying in hypnotizing patterns
while I watch the train pushing forward.
And I wish that I was on it, destination unknown.

(baby)

Brrr...glad I don't have to deal with that anymore. Playing in the snow was great fun when I was a kid  but somehow I just don't think I would enjoy it as much now. You painted a very realistic picture.

Wow, dear Alison, I guess you were out because you needed to! Quite a scene you offered here. I loved the thought of wanting to be on the train to nowhere, sometimes nowhere beckons us  temptingly out of where we are at the moment.

Intense write.

Don't I know the photos...it's been a long, long winter.

this is beautiful..we're getting a storm here tonight...nothing like there, but still, a beautiful snow storm and being shut in, somehow feels so warm and snuggly, if you don't have to drive in it...right?

lovely picture...kinda gave me a erie feeling...but neat, just the same...

I find those blizzards (with 'horizontal' snow) always fascinating!

I am particularly fond of:

"It’s an early morning road to nowhere,
but I am hurrying to get there, blindly driving
against snowflakes flying in hypnotizing patterns
while I watch the train pushing forward.
And I wish that I was on it, destination unknown(!)"

I so often wish I had a train to just 'ride away' (or a river to 'skate away') on!

Although I am not especially fond of photo. and graphics images presented
with poetry (I believe the 'word-painted' imagery should be able to stand, run,
leap, and dance 'on its own' merit,) at least this writer's images are 'original'
to said author; and also not just a 'crutch' for a limping or pithless 'penning!'...
this 'write' is most fine!

v. serious, long-sustained applause!!

A chill ran through my body when I saw the photo ~ and it only increased as I read your bone-chilling words. It's uncanny, but the whole scenario is uncomfortable similar to a dream ~ or should I say "nightmare" ~ that I had last night! Brrrrr!

You sure know how to write! ~ and take photographs!

Giving you a "WARM" hug,

Lovely Margherita,

It was definitely a day that work called.  I don't think that I minded the cold and wind as much as my car did.  It wasn't all that bad really - do I sound like I am trying to convince you?  (laughs)

Thank you for responding, my friend.

Hey Sunshine,

If I ever take you up on that offer - it won't be in Januray.  You can count on that.  If I come, may I see your ruby slippers - I promise not to try to put them on.  Okay, maybe one click.  Just one?

Heya Lee,

I know what you mean - winter has been long this year and I think that is reflected in so many poems here on these blue pages.

I was trying for a Siberian Gulag feel in the picture.  I played with it in Photo Shop, but it was a damn cold, windy, snowy day.  Now it is just windy and cold today.

Oh well, March comes in like a lion ... right?

Hey AW,

Some Schnapps is always good in that cocoa - or maybe some Carolans in your coffee.  Both make the winter a bit more bearable.

Bruce,

Thank you - I have lots of river to skate on here.  You know, I love your comments to my poetry.  The thoughts you share always seem to inspire me.

I agree about pictures.  I have been playing a lot with photography and this poem was actually written to that picture.  I held the picture for some time until I could find the words to express what it means to me.

I, too, often like poems to just paint their own pictures - so I understand what you mean.

Thank you, my friend.

I know the song that you mean - and yes, I can see why you thought of it when you saw the picture.  Doesn't the song have something about a 'lonely whistle' in it?
